Believer's baptism
Baptism of a person who has made a personal profession of faith, normally by full immersion.
Believer's baptism is the baptism of a person who has made a personal profession of faith in Christ, as distinct from infant baptism in paedobaptist traditions. The candidate is normally an older child, teen, or adult; the typical age range in US Baptist and non-denominational practice is eight to fourteen, though both younger and older candidates are common. Baptism is by full immersion in virtually all Baptist, non-denominational, and Pentecostal congregations. Theologically the rite is understood as a public act of obedience following salvation rather than as a sacrament conferring grace.
