The Book of Common Prayer is the principal liturgical book of the Anglican Communion, containing the standard forms for worship: the Daily Office, the Holy Eucharist, the rites of baptism, marriage, ordination, the Burial of the Dead, and many others. The Episcopal Church (TEC) in the United States uses the 1979 BCP; the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA), formed in 2009, uses the 2019 BCP. Earlier BCPs (1549, 1552, 1662, 1928, and others) remain in use in some Anglican churches and continuing churches. The book is foundational to Anglican identity and to Anglican-derived hymnody, devotion, and pastoral practice.
