The Divine Liturgy is the principal Sunday and feast-day Eucharistic service in Orthodox tradition, the Orthodox parallel to the Catholic Mass and the Anglican Eucharist. Several specific Divine Liturgies are in use across the year: the Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom (most Sundays), the Liturgy of Saint Basil the Great (specific Sundays and feasts), and the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts (Wednesdays and Fridays during Great Lent). The service is sung, often largely or entirely by the priest and cantor, and includes the same essential structure across the traditions: the Liturgy of the Word (readings and hymns) and the Liturgy of the Eucharist (the offering, consecration, and reception of the body and blood of Christ).
