A eulogy is a speech or written tribute in memory of a deceased person, typically delivered at a funeral or memorial service. The eulogist is the person delivering the eulogy. Practice varies sharply across Christian traditions: Catholic funeral Masses typically restrict family eulogies to brief "words of remembrance" before the final commendation, with fuller eulogies happening at the Vigil; Anglican, Mainline Protestant, and evangelical funerals commonly include longer eulogies as part of the service; Orthodox funerals do not have eulogies at the service itself. The word comes from the Greek eulogia, good words or praise.
