The Pater Noster, more commonly called the Lord's Prayer in English, is the prayer beginning "Our Father, who art in heaven..." (in Latin, "Pater noster, qui es in caelis..."). The prayer is taught by Christ in Matthew 6 and Luke 11 and is the most universal Christian prayer, recited or sung at virtually every Christian liturgical service across the traditions. Catholic, Anglican, and Lutheran versions typically end with "deliver us from evil"; most Protestant traditions add the doxological ending "for thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever. Amen." Both endings are ancient.
