The presider is the clergy member leading a liturgical service. Catholic and Anglican tradition typically calls the priest at a Mass or Eucharist the celebrant (older usage) or the presider (newer usage emphasizing the role's leadership of the gathered assembly). Protestant and especially wedding contexts more commonly use "officiant" for the minister leading the service. In Orthodox tradition the priest celebrating the Divine Liturgy is the celebrant; in larger services with multiple priests the presiding priest is the chief celebrant. The role is liturgical leadership of the gathered community in prayer and (in the Eucharistic services) consecration of the gifts.
