Solemnity
The highest rank of feast in the Catholic liturgical calendar.
A solemnity is the highest rank of feast in the Catholic liturgical calendar, above feast and memorial. The principal solemnities include Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God (January 1), the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi), the Annunciation, the Assumption, All Saints, and the Immaculate Conception. Solemnities are celebrated with the full liturgical solemnity (the Gloria and Creed sung, special prayers, festive vestments); some are holy days of obligation requiring Catholic attendance at Mass.
